Eyes Fixed!

“With our eyes fixed on Jesus the source and the goal of our faith.  For he himself endured a cross and thought nothing of its shame because of the joy he knew would follow his suffering; and he is now seated at the right hand of God’s throne.”  Hebrews 12:2

Isn’t it amazing how many things our eyes can drift toward.  Eyes of: What people think of me?  Eyes of:  What is next?  Eyes of:  How can I do something that will lead to a particular outcome.  This scripture says to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus!  He is the source and the goal.  Think of what he endured for YOU.  Think of his process.  It is because of his suffering that we can approach the throne with confidence.  And, He is today, on that throne.

What does it look like to keep your eyes fixed?  One answer is for you to ask God what that looks like for you, through some time away, or quiet reflection.  I once had a friend that would say, “Audience of One,” all the time.  This would mean that when your eyes start to drift, remember, you are playing to one person that matters — Jesus.

Reflection 1:  What today are you battling to take your eyes off of?  What are the distractions that lure your eyes?

Reflection 2:  In what ways can you “endure the cross” in some way, shape, or form today?

Prayer:  Grant to me Lord an endurance today to fix my eyes on you from sunrise until sunset.
