Crossing from Death to Life

There was one particular week at camp where I saw a kid I thought, “No way.”  He looked to me like a modern day Marilyn Manson.  He never really smiled.  I remember he did not participate in the games nor did he get in the pool.  I thought, “Is he having fun?”

The last day of camp two things happened that I will never forget.  (1) He stood up at Say-So the final club to say he accepted Christ.  (2) I saw him smile and saw his appearance completely change.  It was an amazing moment when I knew that he crossed from death to life.  The picture below was taken minutes after the final club.

Scripture:  John 5:24

Scripture Reading:  “I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”

Thought:  Think of a time when you heard from God . . . could have been from the Word, from a sermon, from another person.  Think of the MOMENT you asked Jesus into your life/heart.  Do you remember it?  Do you realize the power of the moment that you responded to Jesus in your life?  You crossed from Death to Life!  FOREVER.  Who is the last person that you know of that has met Christ?  Who is someone you know right now who has not met Christ?  Pray for them.

Or, could this be you?  Did you realize that you can have a hope that lasts forever today?  You can!  Romans 10:9, “Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord.”  Why not?  It seems like a great promise to cross from death to life . . .

Reflection 1:  Just to assure your salvation . . . to put an exclamation point on it . . . give testimony now and say when it was that you crossed from death to life?

Reflection 2:  What does it mean to you today to (a) hear His Word? And (b) believe in Him who sent Me?  There is life in these two things . . . God’s Word and really, Obedience.  Pray today for these two things.

Prayer:  Lord please bring to my mind and heart today ways I can even live-out being more obedient to you.

  1. Good word!! 1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” We got the privilege of seeing a lot of kids make a move from death to life this past week!!
